Mississippi State University Golf Course
The MSU Golf Course was designed by Brian Ault, ASGCA, in 1985 and opened in 1986. It has 18 holes and is 6,972 yards. It has been recognized in several publications:
- Top 30 university-owned golf courses – Golfweek Magazine
- 5th best public course in Mississippi – Golf Digest (1996)
- “Places to Play” – 1991, 1994, and 1996-97
- “best college course in the South” – Golf Digest in December 1996

The course hosts the MSU PGA Golf Management program, MSU Men and Women’s Golf Teams, and the MSU Golf and Sports Turf Management Program.
You’ll find one of the finest practice facilities here at the course, with more than seventeen acres. The course also offers private lessons and fittings. The Golf Shop has officially licensed MSU golf apparel, equipment, and souvenirs.
Old Waverly
In nearby Clay County lies the 18-hole Old Waverly Golf Course. This championship standard course encompasses beautiful greens surrounded by hardwoods and pines with several ponds and lakes.
For those needing a little one-on-one work, Old Waverly offers coaching sessions with two instructors. The Junior Golf Program and Junior Golf Cottage Camps provide training, playing, and practicing time for younger golfers.
Mossy Oak Golf Course
This course in adjacent Clay County was designed by Gil Hanse to complement and minimally impact the local Mississippi Black Prairie habitat. As a result, the course follows the natural contours of the land and maintains the plant communities that make up the habitat.
The Mossy Oak Golf Course was named a “#3 Best New Course” in 2017 by U.S. Golf Digest and “Top 100 Modern Course” in 2019 by U.S. Golfweek, this course
This is the official home for the practice facility of Mississippi State University’s men’s and women’s golf teams. The practice facility includes a five-green driving range, short-game training areas, and a 16,000-square-foot putting green.
The Clubhouse includes an indoor putting center, exercise room, conference room, lounges and locker rooms. Guests can stay at the cottages or villas directly on the course.
Starkville Country Club
Members of the Country Club can enjoy a round of golf on this 18-hole course built in 1990. The course is par 72 and measures 6,560 yards from the back tees. Lined with tall pines and oaks, the course has five different sets of tees for each player’s skill level.
The Club’s Pro Shop carries golf equipment by the major manufacturers as well as golf apparel.
