White-tailed deer, Eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, squirrels, and waterfowl are some of the native game of Mississippi. Starkville and the surrounding areas have several great locations for hunting.

Trim Cane WMA
The 891-acre Trim Cane Wildlife Management Area is 4 miles north of Starkville on MS Hwy 389. Permitted activities are
- deer hunting
- waterfowl hunting
- dove hunting
- rabbit hunting

Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge
During the appropriate state season, it is allowable to hunt small game, deer, waterfowl, and turkey at the Refuge. Only certain areas are designated for hunting and hunters must follow the appropriate rules and regulations. An entrance pass is required.
