For 75 years Montgomery’s Jewelry has opened their doors to customers and guests at their business on Main Street in Starkville, Mississippi.
Specializing in all things jewelry, repairs, and custom designs, Montgomery’s Jewelry has been a staple on Main Street after starting in a small shop at the Rex Theater, and then moving to their current location in 1962.
A family owned and operated business that began by Blackie and Mary Montgomery, son Woody and his wife Robin are continuing the tradition behind the well-known and established jewelry business.
Woody took ownership of the business in 1987, and throughout the years the family has seen its share of return and repeat customers, many of who come to Starkville as university students, as well as many local families who entrust the business with their family heirlooms.
One local family has carried on a 60-year tradition of passing down a pearl-drop necklace to its granddaughters on their 16th birthday, which was purchased at the original storefront in 1961.
Michelle Sharp has been a smiling face at Montgomery’s Jewelry for over forty years.
Sharp said, “We love having visitors stop by who have parents who’ve bought their engagement rings with us, or people who visit from out of town who’ve attended the university and decide to purchase their engagement rings with us after going to MSU.”
Keeping relationships with customers is what has sustained the business for so long. Sharp specializes in custom jewelry design, and is known for helping customers design and recreate the rings and accessories of their dreams.
Woody is also able to manufacture jewelry from family pieces to create one-of-a-kind keepsakes and rings. He says customers oftentimes bring in multiple pieces of family jewelry to be made into something new and special. Woody said, “If it has sentimental value, it’s priceless.”
Robin says one of the most important aspects that she loves about Montgomery Jewelry is forging relationships with customers, and having the customers become repeat customers. “We don’t want a one-time customer. We want them forever,” said Robin.
Celebrating their 75th year anniversary, Montgomery’s Jewelry has seen the changes of the Starkville community, as well as the growth of Mississippi State University, and continues to adapt and provide quality customer service for the community.
Montgomery Jewelry is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
