Join us for Get Swept Up! in 2023
More than 600 volunteers will take to the streets, parks, and other outdoor areas of Starkville armed with rakes, shovels, and pruning shears each fall on the week before Mississippi State’s first home football game. Their goal? Clean up the city and make it especially attractive and welcoming.

In addition to the volunteers working in public areas across the city, residents are encouraged to fly the Mississippi State flag and to mow, trim, and spruce up their homes and yards.
Get Swept Up! is coordinated by the Greater Starkville Development Partnership and sponsored by local businesses. This event is a great way for community members and businesses to work together to spruce up Starkville and show our visitors just how much pride we take in our community.

Become a Volunteer
The real work is done by nearly 600 people who donate their time and energy. They pull weeds, trim shrubberies, pick up trash, and do whatever it takes to make the city look its best. A number of organizations, including garden and civic clubs, take part, too.

Show your commitment to keeping Starkville beautiful, help the environment, and support your community while getting to meet your neighbors – volunteer today!
Volunteers receive a free Get Swept Up! t-shirt, bottled water, gloves, trash bags, and other supplies needed for their cleanup efforts.
The deadline to sign up as a volunteer ended at noon on Wednesday, August 17. Contact Paige Watson at pwatson@starkville.org for late registration. T-shirts are no longer guaranteed.
