First Presbyterian Church of Starkville is the oldest Presbyterian church in North Mississippi. Organized in 1821 with the Mayhew Mission to the Choctaw Indians. The mission was begun by missionaries about seven miles from Starkville in Oktibbeha County. Rev. Cyrus Kingsbury was the first missionary sent by the American Board of Mission in answer to a call from the Choctaw Indians and served as the first pastor of the church.
