PARADE GUIDELINES:
Theme
and Judging Criteria:
1. Floats and entries are encouraged to display a theme consistent
with the theme of the parade, "All I Want for Christmas
Is
"
2. Entries will be judged in the following categories: Best Use
of Theme, Best Use of Lights, and Most Original.
Physical Requirements for Entries:
3. The Parade Committee recommends that your float be constructed
of fire-resistant material as much as possible and should be motorized
or pulled by a tractor or truck, and adequate lighting used in
order to create a better overall effect.
4. There shall be no live fires on the floats or any other entry
in the parade.
5. All entries shall display its organization's title on the front
and sides of the entry.
6. Entries in the float category shall not exceed 14' in height
from the ground.
7. Pick-up trucks may be used. It is requested that pick-up trucks
be decorated as appropriately as possible. Standing in the bed
or sitting on the sides is not allowed. All pick-up trucks must
have adult supervision walking alongside.
8. Parade participants may not exit off or out of
the vehicle until reaching the end of the designated parade routes.
9. No parade participants shall throw or encourage the throwing
of any items to the parade viewers, especially candy or other similar
items.
10. No entrant shall encourage any parade viewer to gather around
or follow the entry in any fashion that may cause harm to other
parade viewers.
11. No float, with the exception of the final parade float, will
have a Santa Claus.
To complete registration (entry deadline is Nov. 15):
12. Each entrant must complete a Parade Application and complete
description of entry on a 3 x 5 index card. This information will
be used for the television announcers during the parade.
13. All entries must accompany the $15 entry fee before being
included in the official parade line up.
14. Each entrant must attend or have a representative attend
a mandatory representatives' meeting on November 22, 2004 at 5:15pm
at the Comfort Suites.
Parade Line-Up and Route:
15. Line-Up will begin at 5:45pm on Russell Street. Numbers assigned
to registrants will be painted on the road in WHITE spray paint.
Please tell your groups in advance your assigned number.
16. Groups are strongly encouraged to have at least one representative
present at the assigned number by 5:30pm to assist with your group's
location identification.
17. The parade route will leave west on Lampkin, turn north on Montgomery,
west on Main Street back to Lampkin. From there, groups will turn
LEFT (East) onto Lampkin and MUST continue on until
reaching the AmSouth Bank's back parking lot. Drivers of vehicles
must not allow riders to leave the vehicle/floats until reaching
AmSouth Bank. Groups will be disqualified from the judging and
may not be allowed to enter the 2005 parade if this in not adhered
to. For the safety of everyone associated with the parade, PLEASE
help us make sure your groups understand how important this is.
Television and Other Publicity:
18. The Starkville Christmas Parade will air live on WOBV Channel
5 the evening of the parade (Monday, November 29) beginning at 6:30pm.
Additional air times will be Tuesday, November 30 at 7pm, each Monday
in December at 7pm and every 4 hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas
Day.
19. At least one representative of parade winners should be available
to receive awards for photo and publicity purposes after the parade.
