  COMMITTEE PREFERENCE SHEET

Chamber of Commerce committees serve as an outlet for volunteers to meet people with similar interests and enable individuals to apply their professional skills and knowledge to activities outside the workplace.

You are invited to serve on one of the following committees. Simply click on the link above, print out the Committee Preference Sheet, and return it to our office. You'll be notified by email of the next committee meeting.

Community Appearance
This committee directs and supports the Get Swept Up! Campaign and serves as a resource for the community to ensure the greater Starkville area is clean and attractive for residents, visitors and business owners. It is also responsible for the coordination and planning of new entrance signage for the main arteries leading into Starkville.

Community Leadership Development
Enhancing the leadership skills of community and business leaders stimulates dynamic, outside-the-box thinking and increased civic involvement. This committee is challenged with the overall direction of The Forum, Oktibbeha County's Leadership Development program as it relates to the following: (1) program development (2) sponsor solicitation (3) participant recruitment and (4) sustainability and involvement of alumni affairs. This program is a collaborative effort between the Partnership and Mississippi State Universityís Extension Service.

Education and Workforce Development
This committee plans and implements a program that unites business and industry with area schools, works with parent organizations and addresses workforce concerns. Volunteers also implement an annual Education Hall of Fame Event to honor outstanding local educators.

Military Affairs
This committee provides support to local, regional and visiting military units through appreciation events and recognition programs, including the annual Salute to the Military event and Memorial Day Service. Members stay abreast of the latest federal military activities and their impact on the region and provide support as requested.

Retirement
The retirement committee, under management of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, identifies and markets the attributes of the Starkville Area as a retirement community and provides information on services available to retirees and retiree prospects.

Small Business Development
This committee serves as a venue for small businesses to address issues of importance to members. Committee members host regular seminars with speakers focusing on topics that are relevant to the business community. This committee is also instrumental in coordinating and promoting a campaign encouraging residents to shop locally.

University Relations
This committee serves as a bridge to strengthen Starkville and University relationships and activities through interactions with city and MSU representatives. It also encourages business involvement by hosting events for new faculty and ensuring a spirit of cooperativeness and inclusiveness between Starkville and the University community.
